Board and Officer Nominees and Election Update
Please Opt-In- For Electronic Balloting!
Open Position Nominees
The following slate of candidates for the Officer and Board positions are up for election this year under the staggered terms and in accordance with the requirements of our Constitution and Bylaws. These nominees are submitted by the Spinone Club of America Nominating Committee after consideration of many worthy candidates:
President: Ann Bagnell, Pennsylvania (incumbent)
Treasurer: Tarn Rosenbaum, Virginia (incumbent)
Board Member: Carmen Alvarez, New Jersey (new nominee)
You will find the biographies for these nominees on the SCOA website after logging in (My SCOA > Club Business > Club Business (Member Only). As with other member-only documents, you must then request access.
Additional nominations of eligible members may be made by written petition addressed to the Secretary at the address below, postmarked no later than February 1, 2025, signed by five members in good standing with SCOA and AKC, and accompanied by the written acceptance of each such additional nominee signifying his or her willingness to be a candidate, as described in Article IV Section 4 of our Bylaws. If additional nominations are received, an election will be held.
Electronic Balloting
Our revised bylaws allow the use of electronic balloting for board elections or for changes to our bylaws and breed standard. This is part of our ongoing effort to improve the digital interface for our members. We already used e-balloting to select judges this year, improving our participation rate enormously. However, the bylaws state that electronic board elections must be implemented in accordance with the AKC’s procedure on Electronic Balloting for AKC Parent Clubs, which says that members must explicitly opt into e-balloting before we can start to use it.
We will soon start a campaign to request members’ authorization for electronic ballots in our voting, and we are looking forward to your participation. Please watch your email and our website for further information.
Remember that we are still obligated to use an outside firm for board elections, which is very expensive when we are working with paper ballots, especially since our staggered terms mean that we can have elections every year. So even if you are not an active SCOA voter, your authorization will help free up club funds for other projects.
With best wishes for a happy and paper-free new year!
